A three step approach

Measure culture - Intervention - Measure culture

To develop the culture, it is important to understand the current nature of your organisation's culture.

Measure Culture

To understand the culture in your organization a two part survey will be provided. The first part will be used to understand the demographics of the staff. The second part is designed to measure a representation of virtues universally recognized and experienced by the staff. Only a majority of the staff need to complete this. Alternatively the focus can be on one department. This will be complemented by brief interviews with a few staff members to gain a richer understanding of the staff’s subjective experience of the culture. Depending on the organization, further data would be helpful from Human Resources e.g. staff turnover and staff sickness. Collectively this builds a baseline.

Intervention

Working directly with staff at all levels, I will run workshops to provide a common understanding of virtues and their value focusing on 3 key virtues – trustworthiness, compassion and excellence (self efficacy). Then, collaboratively we will explore the processes in your company, the platforms where staff interact, make decisions, and perform.  The intervention process will take minimum time each week but will last 3-6 months to ensure the culture has taken on a more virtuous paradigm.

Measure Culture

This step is uncommon, but necessary. Results will manifest in many ways, but as a comparison I will re-measure the virtuous experience of the staff with a questionnaire and interviews. Further workshops will provide opportunity for reflection, adjustment and further implementation. At this point the results will be woven into the fabric of day to day business. A virtuous culture looks after itself as long as culture is one of the priorities of the organization.
